Description:
Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of game technologies as they intersect with live action and tabletop role-playing games! While technology has always played a role in enhancing these experiences, the rapid evolution of game technologies opens up a plethora of opportunities to elevate gameplay to new heights. This lecture aims to explore both existing and emerging technologies, and how they can be harnessed by users of varying skill levels — from the casual end user to the passionate enthusiast and the professional developer.
We will delve into the realm of extended reality, exploring how it can create immersive experiences that blur the line between the physical and digital worlds. We will also discuss game engines, the powerhouses behind our favorite games, and how they can be leveraged to create engaging narratives and interactions.
The lecture will also address the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in gaming — its opportunities for creating dynamic, responsive game environments, as well as the challenges and ethical considerations it presents. Lastly, we will touch upon 3D modeling and additive manufacturing, and how these can bring our imaginations to life in the form of tangible, custom game pieces, costumes, and props.
Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to discover how technology can transform the way we play and experience larp and tabletop RPGs!
