Read the rest of “Chapter 2: Transformative Role-playing Games: Types, Purposes, and Features” in Transformative Role-playing Game Design. 

Read sections 3.1-3.4 until the end of “Mechanisms of Transformation” of “Chapter 3: Theory, Central Concepts, and Inspirational Materials” in Transformative Role-playing Game Design

  1. Summarize Kemper’s concept of wyrding the self in 1-2 sentences in your own words. Describe one (1) practice Kemper recommends to help facilitate this process. Be specific.
  2. Describe one (1) of your experiences with leisure games, whether role-playing or otherwise, that in your opinion hold transformative potential. 
    • What do you think this potential might be?
    • Did you notice any transformative impacts in yourself or others? Be specific. 
  3. Based on one (1) practice discussed in the chapters, briefly describe how you would redesign one (1) or more aspects of the game to augment its transformative potential.
