Reflection Journal 2: Implementing Transformative Leisure Role-playing Games and You

Read Lauri Lukka’s “The Psychology of Immersion” (11 pages).

Watch the “Bleed Management, De-roling, and Debriefing” roundtable from Living Games Conference 2018 (1 h 14 min).

Then, answer the following questions:

  1. What concept surprised or intrigued you the most from Lukka’s article? Be specific.
    • Does this concept relate to your own play experiences? Why or why not?
    • How might a deeper understanding of immersion help you better understand what happened in your players’ psychology when engaging with your game?
  2. Choose two (2) different recommendations from the “Bleed Management” video that you were not presented in the previous two courses. Do you find these recommendations relevant to your own implementation practices? Why or why not?
  3. Reflect upon the game you have designed and implemented in the previous two Transformative Game Design courses. In what one (1) or more ways can you improve in your facilitation skills? Be specific.
  4. Based on the materials you read or watched this week, think of one insight that will inform your implementation choices for Major Assignment 1, which involves scaling up your previous nano-game. How will this insight impact your implementation choices? Be specific.Â
