Discussion 1: Tabletop Role-playing Games: Implementation Basics

Watch the first 39 minutes of Sarah Lynne Bowman’s “Transformative Role-playing Games: Implementation Basics” (1 hr 18 min total).

Choose one (1) video to watch from the Art of the Table list under the Overview for Unit 1.

  1. After watching Bowman’s video, identify three (3) aspects of implementation that you have considered the least when facilitating tabletop role-playing games? You can use experiences from tabletop facilitation or from your nano-games in this class if necessary. What aspects might you find challenging when facilitating your game for this class? Be specific.
  2. Describe three (3) recommendations facilitators made in The Art of the Table video. Reflect upon your own experience. For each recommendation, discuss:
    • How does this recommendation compare with your own play experience?
    • How does this recommendation compare with your own facilitation experience?
    • How might this recommendation impact your facilitation practice in the future, if at all? Be specific.
