Read Williams, Kirschner, Mizer, and Deterding’s “12. Sociology and Role-playing Games” and Vanek’s “Behind the Larp Census: 29.751 Larpers Can’t (All) Be Wrong.”

Choose one (1) item to examine from the category Social Status and Appearance under Recommended Materials.

  1. In 1-2 sentences, describe three (3) concepts in Williams et al.’s chapter. For each concept, answer:
  1. How might this concept illuminate your understanding of social groups within which role-playing occurs, if at all? Be specific.

    • What evidence does the author make to support this claim?
    • What consequences might issues surrounding social status and/or appearance have upon individuals within transformative play communities? Be specific.
