Cultivating Transformational Communities

Submission of First Draft of Major Assignment 2: Cultivating Transformational Communities

For your First Draft of Major Assignment 2, you will write a 1700-2700 word academic paper containing the following sections:

  1. Description and Analysis of your Autobiographical Nano-game Design
  1. In 1-2 paragraphs, describe the content of your autobiographical nano-game, the privilege and/or marginalization explored in the game, and the desired transformative impacts and/or learning objectives.
  2. In 1 paragraph, discuss your positionality as a designer and reflexivity as a researcher. How did these factors inform the Research Through Design process? Be specific.
  3. In 2-3 paragraphs, describe the playtest, feedback, and iteration process.
    • What did you learn from the playtest?
    • Did your game have the desired impacts on your players? Why or why not?
    • What would you change in your design based on feedback?

Note: You will only playtest this game once in your group.

  1. Application of Theory and Best Practices to Design

Choose three (3) concepts from this course that can help inform your game design, particularly with regard to cultivating transformational communities around games. Cite all sources in Chicago Author-Date or another consistent style.

  1. In one (1) paragraph, describe each concept and cite a source from this course.
  2. Discuss how this concept might relate to your autobiographical nanogame design and implementation process, if at all.
  3. Discuss your takeaways regarding this concept that might inform your cultivation of transformational community practices in the future. Be specific.

Appendix I: Game Design Document

Include a revised version of your Game Design Document from Major Assignment 1 as an Appendix based on any changes made after your playtest.
