Discussion 9: Race/Ethnicity and Gender/Sexuality

Choose two (2) items to examine from different content creators in the following categories under Recommended Materials for a total of four (4) articles: Race/Ethnicity and Gender/Sexuality.

Then, answer the following questions for each item:

  1. In 1-2 sentences describe one (1) key issue in role-playing game communities discussed by the author(s) regarding race/ethnicity and/or gender/sexuality.
    • What examples do the author(s) provide regarding this issue?
    • How might this issue create barriers to transformation for individuals from these marginalized identities? Be specific.
    • Does the author describe role-playing as a transformative force? If so, in what way?
    • What recommendations from the author(s) or your own experience would be helpful to implement in role-playing communities to try to mitigate some of the harm described? Be specific.
