Discussion 11: Player Skills
Read Chapter 6 of Implementation sections 6.7-6.17 (pp. 346-373).
Optional: Read Markus Montola, Jaakko Stenros, and Eleanor Saitta’s “The Art of Steering: Bringing the Player and the Character Back Together.”
Optional: Choose one (1) item to examine from each of the following categories from the Recommended Materials for a total of two (2) items: Player Skills, Play as Labor, and Steering for Growth.
Optional: Read Susanne Vejdemo’s “Play to Lift, Not Just to Lose.”

Then, answer the following questions:
- In 1-2 sentences, describe how labor is discussed in the chapter. What sort of labor do you think you might be asking players to perform in your current game design? Be specific.
- Choose two (2) player skills from the textbook that you would like to develop in your own play and facilitation. For each one, write one (1) paragraph answering the following questions.
- Describe the skill in 1-2 sentences.
- Describe your current skill level and how you might want to improve.
- Describe how you might encourage your players to develop this skill through your design and/or implementation strategies.
Finally, respond to at least two (2) of your peers in Ask a Question, Answer a Question format.
