Discussion 2: Facilitating Role-playing Games

Read Chapter 3 of Implementing until the end of section “3.2 ii: Run-time roles” (pp. 116-120).

Read Chapter 4 of Implementing until the end of section “4.2 Inclusive facilitation” (pp. 191-207). 

Choose one (1) video to watch from the Art of the Table list under the Overview for Unit 1.

Then, answer the following questions:

  1. Reflect on the implementation team responsibilities mentioned in Chapter. Which of these responsibilities have you experienced in the past, if any? Be specific.
  2. Describe one (1) facilitation recommendation or concept made in the materials you reviewed. Reflect upon your own experience. For each recommendation or concept, discuss:
    • How does this recommendation or concept compare with your own experience, if at all?
    • How might this recommendation or concept impact your facilitation practice in the future, if at all? Be specific.
  3. Brainstorm an in-game facilitation character who could fit into your scaled up version of your game.
      1. What function could this facilitator serve within the game?
      2. How might including this character help your group meet your transformative goal(s)? Be specific.
