Read Chapter 6 of Implementing sections 6.5-6.6 until the end of “c) Transforming sociopolitical dynamics” (pp. 340-346).

Choose one (1) item to examine under the Role-playing and Relationships section of the Recommended Materials.

Optional: Josephine Baird, Sarah Lynne Bowman, and Kjell Hedgard Hugaas’ “Liminal Intimacy: Role-playing Games as Catalysts for Interpersonal Growth and Relating.”

Then, answer the following questions:

  1. Describe one (1) of the theories of interpersonal relating described in the textbook chapter. How might this theory help explain a play experience you have had in the past? Be specific.
    • If you have no personal experience, consider a hypothetical role-playing situation and describe.
  2. Have you ever witnessed or experienced social development through games as described in the textbook? 
    • If so, please describe.
    • If not, why do you think not?
  3. Describe in 3-4 sentences the main concepts in the item you examined under Role-playing and Relationships.
    • How might these concepts inform your play practices? Be specific.
