Discussion 3: Implementing Transformative Leisure Role-playing Games
Read Bowman et al.’s Chapter 2 in Implementing starting at section “2.3 Hacking existing games for transformative purposes” (pp. 59-115).
Optional: Read one (1) article from the Recommended Readings under each of the following categories for a total of two (2) articles: Bleed and Post-game Emotional Reactions.

Then, answer the following questions:
- Reflect back on the games you have facilitated in this course so far. Have you noticed emergent play arising that was unexpected?
- If so, please describe. Did these emergent actions align with your transformative goals? Why or why not.
- If not, imagine if the players took your game in a different direction. What direction might emergent play go that diverges from your original intention? Be specific.
- Imagine a specific target group for whom you might want to run a scaled up version of your game. Based on the chapter:
- What specific considerations do you need to make in terms of this population’s needs?
- Are there specific stakeholders who you may have to work with to gain access to this population? If so, how would you approach this process? Be specific.
- Brainstorm a co-creation exercise you could do with this target group.
- How might you include them in the creation process?
- Are there any potential drawbacks to this practice? Be specific.
