Overview: Research and Design Specifics

Welcome to our unit on Research and Design Specifics! We will discuss ways to design and iterate role-playing games, but also how to take that process a step further, including important considerations when conducting academic research. Furthermore, you will focus on designing the workshop and debrief for your nanogame during this unit. Make sure to finalize your expanded game design document with these aspects included by the end of the unit.

In this Unit, we will cover:

  • Basics of Human Subject Research: Surveys and Interviews
  • Basics of Human Subject Research: Consent
  • General RPG Design Techniques
  • Narrative Design in RPGs
  • Character Design in RPGs
