Overview: Ritual, Symbolism, and Culture in Game Design

Welcome to Unit 7 on Ritual, Symbolism, and Culture in Game Design! In this Unit, we will deepen into specific practices for designing rituals, narratives, and symbolism in role-playing games. Additionally, we will consider how these elements can be employed in specific ways to encourage transformative impacts.

In this Unit, we will cover:

  • Ritual Design
  • Integrating Symbolism to Achieve Design Goals
  • Designing New Cultures for RPGs
  • Integrating Existing Cultures into RPGs
