Discussion 11: Styles and Cultures of Role-playing Game Design

Examine one (1) item from the Recommended Materials list on tabletop role-playing games under the Unit 6 Overview.

Examine two (2) items from the Recommended Materials list on larp under the Unit 6 Overview from two (2) different creators under two (2) different categories, e.g. German larp, American freeform, Online larp, etc.

  1. For each article, provide one (1) paragraph that answers the following questions:
  1. Provide the names of the creator(s), the item, and the category under which this item is listed.
  2. Briefly describe one (1) or more games mentioned in the item in 4-6 sentences total, e.g., narrative, mechanics, any topics on the Mixing Desk you noticed. 
    • If specific games are not mentioned, describe general design practices.
  3. What is the significance of these design aspects according to the creator?
  4. Based on context clues or your own knowledge, how do you think these design aspects represent the play cultures from which they emerge? Be specific and feel free to speculate if you are unsure.
